Reiki is a Japanese word that translates as Universal Life Force Energy. ‘Rei’ refers to the Universal, all encompassing, spiritual aspect of the energy and ‘Ki’ refers to the inherent vital energy in all living organisms. ‘Rei’ and ‘Ki’ combined refers to the joining of individual life force with the spiritual Source from which it springs.

Reiki is not a belief system, religion or cult. It is practiced by people of all persuasions. Christians, Muslims, Jews, atheists and agnostics are all able to receive the benefits of Reiki because it is not tied to any particular religion or philosophy. Once you have it, you have it for life, and can use it any way you see fit. You do not need to belong to any group or association.

I am a Usui Reiki Master as well as a Lighterian Reiki Master. I am very different in my approach when teaching Reiki. Reiki is one of the ancient mysteries of the world. Because I do not believe in getting bogged down by semantics, and that the Reiki energy is pure wisdom, I “teach” Reiki in a way that enables the students to connect with their intuition and letting that guide them in a healing session. In fact, I do the Reiki attunements first and then only teach the students the fundamentals of each level.

In this way, we ‘play’, allowing the student to explore and examine the method best suited to them. Many doctrines keep Reiki a mystery and apply all kinds of rules and regulations. I personally do not agree with this and feel that this is just a way of making yourself important at the expense of the beauty of Reiki.

I believe that Reiki is in us all and the attunements enable us to connect to and work with this incredible energy. In fact, I teach my students that to be a Reiki Master is the time that one only then starts to learn.

The principles of Reiki are well worth mentioning and if we, as individuals could apply this in our daily lives, we would be a long way up on the path of enlightenment.

  1. Just for today, do not worry
  2. Just for today, do not anger
  3. Honour your parents, teachers and elders
  4. Earn your living honestly
  5. Show gratitude to every living thing
